Poached pears with chocolate sauce and pistachios are a delicious way to satisfy sweet cravings while supporting a healthier lifestyle in midlife.
Pears are naturally rich in fibre, which helps digestion, supports heart health, and promotes fullness, an important factor for weight management as metabolism slows with age.
Gently poaching them enhances their sweetness without needing much refined sugar, making this dessert lighter than traditional puddings.

Serves 2
For The Poached Pears:
- 25g caster sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 300mls water
- 2 small pears, peeled
For The Chocolate Sauce:
- 40g plain chocolate – 70% cocoa solids
- 50mls light evaporated milk
- 15g shelled pistachio nuts, roughly chopped
Method:
- Place the sugar, cinnamon stick and water in a small pan and gently heat to dissolve the sugar. Add the pears, cover and simmer, over a low heat for 20-30mins or until the pears are soft.
- To make the chocolate sauce, melt the chocolate in a small heatproof bowl over a pan of boiling water, once the chocolate has melted stir evaporated milk.
- Remove the pears from the sugar solution, slice in half and transfer to a serving dish, drizzle over the chocolate sauce and sprinkle over the pistachio nuts.
Per serving: 250cals, 10g fat, 4g saturated fat, 4g protein, 4.5g fibre, 36g carbohydrate, 36g sugar, 0.1g salt.
Gluten Free/Low in saturated fat.
